What the Hulao Gate slice includes

Hulao Gate is the coalition-versus-Lu Bu myth that original DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 already used as a showcase. The remaster demo keeps that battlefield and lets you enter from Shu, Wei, or Wu through the six named officers. Zhao Yun and Guan Yu are the Shu charge. Xiahou Dun and Zhen Ji are the Wei pair. Zhou Yu and Sun Shangxiang are the Wu pair. That is a three-kingdom sample, not the full 42.

The US hub marks Demo Available, and Steam's parent listing points at app 4995490. You do not need the full game purchased to download it. Because it is a demo, expect a single-stage loop rather than Musou Mode unlocks, Camp fusion, or XL stories. Use it to test Evasion, Perfect Power Guard, and whether Unreal Engine 5 crowd fights feel right on your hardware.

Install size and hardware needs follow the Steam demo listing rather than the 60 GB full-game figure. If the demo stutters on a GTX 1060-class card at 1080p, expect to use upscaling in the full build. If it is smooth, you still should read the recommended CPU and GPU before buying Deluxe cosmetics you might never see at 60 fps.

The six playable officers

Steam's playable set is Zhao Yun, Guan Yu, Xiahou Dun, Zhen Ji, Zhou Yu, and Sun Shangxiang — two each from Shu, Wei, and Wu, shown as a compact row below. None of the six are the ORIGINS guest (Ziluan is full-game only), and none are the named XL story trio of Lu Bu, Meng Huo, and Yuan Shao, so this slice will not preview those seven expansion routes. Zhen Ji in Steam prose is Zhenji on the official cards, one officer, not two. Xiahou Dun is the one-eyed Wei man in the six; Guan Yu is the long-beard Shu pick if you want the red weapon silhouette from the Steam stills. After a Hulao run, filter the List of Officers to Demo if you want these six portraits without the other 36.

Limits: difficulty, saves, and differences

Difficulty is adjustable in the demo. That matters if you are coming from later, faster musou titles and need to see whether Classic Settings plus a lower difficulty still feels like 2001, or whether Normal Settings plus Evasion is the only way the fight makes sense in your hands. There is no published list of which remaster features the demo locks.

Saves do not carry over. Do not invest time in a demo officer expecting that growth to appear on 30 September or 1 October. Steam also says the demo may differ from the release build, which is the usual warning for a slice that shipped a week before launch. If a menu, weapon, or option is missing here, check the full game before assuming it was cut from the SKU. October 1, 2026 is the dated launch page; Weapon Fusion is the systems page the demo can only hint at.

What to do after one Hulao clear

If the demo sold you on the remaster, the next purchase question is Standard versus Deluxe, not whether XL is included — XL is already in the Complete Edition. Pre-order the Retro-Style Red Hare Saddle only if you are buying before 30 September 2026 and you care about the retro mount. PC players should still read the Steam minimum: Windows 11 64-bit, an i7-8700 or Ryzen 7 2700X class CPU, 16 GB RAM, and a GTX 1060 6 GB class GPU.

If the demo did not click, decide whether Classic Settings in the full game would have helped, because the 2001 timing is a supported preset. If you wanted Lu Bu on Hulao Gate, that is a full-game / XL-story job, not a demo job. Steam still hosts the demo as a separate app, so uninstalling 4995490 will not remove a full-game purchase of 3841510. Keep them straight when you manage downloads in the client.

What the demo is for, and what it is not

Use the demo to answer three questions: does Unreal Engine 5 musou feel acceptable on your PC or console, do Evasion and Perfect Power Guard click, and do you want Shu, Wei, or Wu as a first full-game force. It cannot answer XL story quality, Ziluan's kit, Deluxe costume look in-game, or whether online two-player play will be good in 2027.

Because saves do not carry, a two-hour demo binge is still just a feel check. When you are done, the useful next pages are Officers for the rest of the faces, Editions if Deluxe extras matter, and Release for the 30 September / 1 October split. Steam app 4995490 stays the demo; app 3841510 is the full game you actually buy.

If you only have time for one officer, Guan Yu or Zhao Yun shows the Shu charge through the gate; Xiahou Dun shows Wei on the same sand. Two short runs beat one long one, because saves will not follow you into October. Then leave the demo and read Officers or Editions instead of grinding a ghost save.
